artistic director, concept, staging, music, production

Ann Allen studied music at Manchester University before going on to specialise in Early Music performance at the Royal Academy of Music and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland. She freelances regularly as a baroque oboist and shawm player performing with many leading orchestras and chamber groups throughout Europe.

Recent highlights include performing at ENO in Damon Albarn's rock opera DR DEE and at the Globe Theatre in the much acclaimed production of RICHARD III.

She also runs her own ensembles Mediva, Il Bacio and Syrinx.

During her time living and working in Switzerland she set up the festival NOX ILLUMINATA which explores new ways to present music, with unusual staging, scenery and lighting as well as fusing genres and showing high art music can merge with a party atmosphere. NOX ILLUMINATA has taken place in various venues in Basel, Switzerland, at the Festspielhaus St Pölten, Austria as well as in a concert series format ILLUMINATIONEN at the Burghof Lörrach, Germany.

Many of the projects coming out of NOX ILLUMINATA were staged concerts and in addition she has worked as an opera director staging various productions as well as creating her own operas or staging oratorios. Highlights include Purcell's Dido and Aeneas in the Braunwald Festival, Switzerland, the newly collaged classical/rock opera Euridice's Lament for the Stimmen Festival and a staged version of Bach's Christmas Oratorio in NOX ILLUMINATA.
